A downloadable game for Windows and macOS

A GOOD LAWYER'S NEVER OBSELETE.

THE YEAR IS 2086.

There's a camera in every device and a half dozen devices on every citizen. There are tracking implants in every cybernetic and location tags on every bullet. No stone goes unturned- and every stone is accounted for.

Violent crimes are cleared in 97% of cases.

The few cases that make it to trial result in a guilty verdict 98% of the time.

People are safer now than at any other time in history, and getting away with murder is nearly impossible.

So if you find yourself wrongly accused...

Better have the right lawyer.

CYBERPUNK MEETS HARDBOILED NOIR

of the Devil is a Visual Novel Adventure Game, inspired by series like Ace Attorney, Danganronpa, Zero Escape, and AI: Somnium. It combines cyberpunk, neo-noir, black comedy and thrilling courtroom drama into an enthralling and gripping narrative about the conflicts between technology and human nature.

Playing as both the disarming Criminal Defense Attorney Evangeline Morgan and the coldblooded Serial Criminal Heartbreak, you solve episodic murder mysteries by examining crime scenes, gathering evidence, questioning persons of interest and ultimately defending your clients in court.

In this prologue,  Morgan answers an unassuming Public Defender request and finds herself charged with advocating for the man who the police say has shot five people through the heart...and counting. During the demo you'll have to gather the facts, gauge the strength of the police's case, then interview your client and try to build a counterargument strong enough to reveal the truth.

After your playthrough, please leave a comment and/or a rating to let us know your thoughts! Your feedback and word of mouth are the highest praise we could ask for.

The part about ADs and Artificial Intelligence being internationally banned gave me chills. Makes one wonder how far people got before things got shut down, and what AI might still exist somewhere in the world in black sites where research can go unnoticed. Are there possibly a few AI cores disguised as something harmless (like regular sub-AI AD cores) being handed around through the black market, were they all successfully destroyed along with the knowledge for creating them, or has an artificial sentient thought never been experienced and all this caution and censorship is being done as a preventative measure to something theoretically possible? It's really a fascinating setup.

Thanks so much for your thoughtful comments! We're really glad to see you enjoyed immersing yourself in and speculating about the world we're crafting. Be sure to check out the much more robust Episode 0 Demo we just put out on Steam, or check out our other games and stories here:https://linktr.ee/otdevil

Very interesting they mention the "Citizens with Disabilities Act" (Americans with Disabilities Act) not applying to cybernetics modding. Me and my coworkers talked about this a lot since we work in the disability field and are interested in these kinds of things. It makes sense to me though, as if you had your hand chopped off from an accident or attack, and had it replaced by a robot hand that was no doubt expensive and requires maintenance and could be a liability during very cold or very hot weather... Even if the hand had major advantages, it would still be considered a disability under the ADA as it's essentially just a high end prosthetic. But if you willingly went out of your way to have your hand deliberately cut off and replaced with a robot hand, then any and all drawbacks stemming from having one are implicitly your sole responsibility and it should not be considered a disability. That's my thoughts about it. This game really makes one think a lot. The worldbuilding is highly immersive so far.

off to an amazing start.I love that the glossary of terms is in the form of a search engine. Great world-building and commentary. Looking forward to the steam release!

Morgan is so hot, it's not fair.

Me and a bunch of friends just did a group stream on discord so we could go through it all together, and the game was a lot of fun! I really like the sense of comedic timing, and it was a lot of fun to piece the puzzles together in time with all the clues.

Thank you, we're glad you had fun playing together! Please look forward to our upcoming Steam release which is jam-packed with new gameplay, features, and cinematic enhancements; Anyone who's played our itch build will have a lot to look forward to!

Our Steam Page:

Foolish question (hopefully) to ask, but what do I do to begin the game on the Start screen? it seems to not work no matter what I click or press

I was able to get it by exiting to the title screen...from the title screen, but that doesn't feel right lol

Sorry you had difficulty there- you should be able to mouse over the START text in the bottom left corner and Left click it to start the game normally, but using the pause menu to return to the title screen and selecting New Game should always work as well!

Are there any plans to release a build for linux?

We're currently working on of the Devil's next iteration, and will be able to share details about it soon. We'd like to make our games available on as many platforms as possible!

my wife and i are ace attorney guys and i just gushed about this to her during our entire commute to work

This is so sweet! Our craft, our team and our engine has greatly improved over the past year and we're excited about the new developments we'll be able to announce soon. Stay tuned!

Really really enjoyed this game!

Came for the cyberpunk version of ace attorney, stayed for the plot that made me audibly gasp, you know when.

absolutely amazing. looking forward to whatever comes next.

Thank you for your kind praise (and your respect for spoilers). We're hard at work on chapter one and more, so please stay tuned and spread the word where you can!

Here's a playthrough if you need more data. The only thing that confused me was the positioning of the elements in the crime scene and who was viewing what, from where.

Thanks so much for your playthrough! We're always looking for ways to improve the UI, controls, and story experience, so we really appreciate it!

played this on stream a couple weeks ago and man. im still thinking about it... the art, story, world building, and characters were all top notch, it's just a really good time man! stoked for more

this was REALLY good. the artwork, characters, and worldbuilding were all fantastic, i loved all the subtle details in dialogue and in the encyclopedia. i can't wait to see more of this

When I read the description for the game and saw that it was inspired by many big titles that I recognized and enjoyed, my expectations were immediately set high.

From the moment you click start, the transition is subtle and sets the tone for the dark and gritty world you're soon introduced to after. The world building and environments compliment the tone perfectly. I'm glad that those who worked on the game really fleshed out everything before releasing the Prologue. It really paid off in waves as I'm sold on the idea of it now.

Thanks so much for such a thoughtful playthrough and for your recommendation! Your feedback on UI and game systems was also very appreciated- we're working on making players' experience as smooth and immersive as possible. Chapter One will explore the world and its characters further, including HK.

reyes is extremely hot. it's not fair. (the rest of the game is also cool but y'know, priorities)

Really interesting prologue! I enjoyed the characters a lot. I can see the influence of the properties you mentioned, and it's still not quite what I was expecting! I'm intrigued to play more.

Thanks so much! We've got so much more we want to show you all!

Great prologue. Characters' appearance matches well with the storyline.  Will share with friends.

I'm so excited to see where this goes! Everything about this game is so well done, the writing really gets you pulled in quickly and doesn't let go. So much of the world-building is a refreshing break from boring cyberpunk nonsense. It feels alive, it feels unfortunately realistic...I can't wait to see more!

The writing in this game is gripping. So much intrigue, and the characters are both easy to understand and compelling. The world-building is also quite fascinating. I really can't wait to see more chapters of this!

Amazing prologue! The world is so colorful and fleshed out, it's amazing how much was put into the prologue. I can't wait for Chapter One!

Thank you! We're happy to tell you that the prologue's just the tip of the iceberg! We have so much more to show you all about this world and its characters. Be sure to tell all your fellow fans of the genre so we can get this project to the next big stage!
